Category:Old French derivations
This category comprises words whose etymologies involve Old French roots.
English words from Old French usually via Middle English. Some of these words however entered Middle English via the Anglo-Norman variant of Old French (cattle, eagle, etc.). Anglo-Norman had distinct sound-features, notably Latin c was preserved and did not become ch as in standard Old French (compare Anglo-Norman catel vs Old French chatel). There were other differences as well.
