Etymology

From Proto-Finno-Ugric *aja-; a cognate to Estonian ajama, Sami vuodjit among others. Cf. Latin agō, Greek άγειν (ágein), Sanskrit अजति (ájati). Common origin suggested, a loan from Indo-European more likely.
