ne man, correct form is een man — a man
nen auto, correct form is een auto — a car

Usage notes

In Flanders this is commonly used as the dialectal form of een. It is only used for masculine words, while een is still used for feminine and neuter words.

The form nen is used before vowels and certain consonants, differing from dialect to dialect. The same happens for the definite article de which becomes den, and sometimes for adjectives as well.

Finnish

Pronunciation

  • Hyphenation: ne
  • Rhymes: -e
  • IPA: [ne]

Pronoun

ne (plural, stem nii-)

  1. (Template loop detected: Template:context 1) they. Plural of the pronoun se (“it”).
  2. (demonstrative) When used like a definite article, “the” or “those”.
Tässä ne kirjat nyt ovat. — “Here are the books now.”
  3. (Template loop detected: Template:context 1) they (in literary standard: he).

Inflection

The case suffixes are mostly regular (except inessive and elative singular). Abessive is never used in singular and extremely seldom in plural. Comitative niin is more or less a theoretical construction, since it has developed into an adverb, and its current meaning cannot be derived from ne.
