Etymology

Old Church Slavonic вѣра identical to Proto-Slavic *věra, from from Proto-Indo-European *weh₁ro- (true). Cognate with Ukrainian віра, Bulgarian вяра, Slovenian vera, Polish wiara. The IE root is also the source of Latin vērus and German wahr.
