Usage notes

Видать is in the class of Russian abstract verbs. Its counterpart, видеть, is in the class of Russian concrete verbs.

  • Note that видать is never conjugated in the present tense. It is used only as the infinitive or in the past tense:
  • Его́ не вида́тьHe is not to be seen.
  • Ничего́ не вида́тьOne can see nothing.
  • Чего́ я там не вида́л! — There is nothing there that interests me (what am I to see).
