Etymology

From Proto-Slavic *oba < Proto-Indo-European *h₂e(m)bʰoh₁, whence also Lithuanian abu, Latin ambo and Ancient Greek άμφω (ámphō).

оба (óba) m. and n., обе (óbe) f.

Usage note: оба in the nominative or accusative case governs the genitive singular of the noun; обе in the nominative or accusative case governs the nominative plural. An intervening adjective will be in the genitive plural for masculine or neuter nouns, nominative plural for feminine. In the other cases, оба/обе and any intervening adjective must all agree with the case of the noun.

The masculine genitive singular form обоего is an anomaly that sees only limited use:
