From Proto-Slavic *tъ, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *tod, from Proto-Indo-European *só, *séh₂, *tód (this, that). PIE demonstrative pronoun was reflected in Balto-Slavic *tos, *ta, *tod, which also gave Lithuanian and Latvian tas, ta.
