ты

Definition from Dictionary, a free dictionary
Perhaps the old monks were right when they tried to root love out; perhaps the poets are right when they try to water it. It is a blood-red flower, with the color of sin; but there is always the scent of a god about it.

Etymology

From Proto-Slavic *ty, from Proto-Indo-European *túh₂.

Pronunciation

Pronoun

ты (ty)

  1. second-person singular, nominative case: you, thou
Usage note: The personal pronoun ты is comparable to French tu, German du, and is used only with family and intimate friends. In classical literature, it is used by superiors to their inferiors, but that usage is no longer tolerated (with the exception of the way adults speak to children, while the children are expected to use вы). For most occasions, the formal вы should be used instead.

Declension

Singular Plural
nominative ты вы
genitive тебя́ вас
dative тебе́ вам
accusative тебя́ вас
instrumental тобо́й, тобо́ю ва́ми
prepositional о тебе́ о вас
