Usage notes

  • A soft way of issuing a command which is firm at the same time; like when a teacher wants a student to pay attention or when a parent scolds it's child.
  • Unlike ください (kudasai), なさい only applies to the positive forms of verbs.
  • なさい uses the stem of verbs.
    食べなさい (たべなさい, tabenasai); eat!
