Middle English Breteyne, from Old French Bretaigne, from [[w:Template:lang:la language|Template:lang:la]][[Category:Template:lang:la derivations]] Britannia, deriving from Ancient Greek Πρεττανία (Prettania), Diodorus's rendering of the indigenous name pretani.
