Middle English Wednesdai, from Old English wōdnesdæġ, Woden's day, from the Proto-Germanic *Wod-enaz-, probably from *wod-eno-/*wod-ono-, raging, mad, inspired, from the base *wet-, to blow, to inspire, to arouse spiritually, + dæġ (see day).
