Etymology

Middle English apperen, aperen, Old French aparoir (French apparoir, apparaître), from Latin apparēre "to appear", from ad "to" + parēre, parrere "come forth, to be visible"; probably from the same root as parire "to produce". Compare with apparent, parent, peer, v.i.
