Etymology

From [[w:Template:lang:it language|Template:lang:it]][[Category:Template:lang:it derivations]] banco, "bench", from the benches in public places from which the first bankers in Renaissance Italy would operate.

The bank of a river or lake is from Old English banca, Old Norse banke and Middle English bank.
