Latin

Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *dāu-, *deu- (to injure, destroy, burn). Cognate with Ancient Greek δύη (duē), misery, pain) and with Duellona (goddess of war). Duellum changed from the initial duellum into bellum (compare the change from duis to bis, and duenos to bonus).
