Irish

Etymology

From Old Irish úar < Proto-Celtic *ougro- (cf. Welsh oer) < Proto-Indo-European *h₂oug- (cf. Armenian ոյծ (oyc)). The initial f- of Modern Irish comes from a misinterpretation of uar as fhuar in lenition environments.
