Etymology

Late Old English ġingiber, from [[w:Template:lang:la language|Template:lang:la]][[Category:Template:lang:la derivations]] gingiber, earlier zingiber, from Ancient Greek ζιγγίβερις, from Prakrit  (siŋgabēra), from Sanskrit, from Tamil இஞ்ஜி (inji) (directly), or possibly through Malayalam ഇഞ്ചി (inchi).
