From Old Norse hrafn (often spelled hramn) from Proto-Germanic *hrabhan. Cognate with Old English hræfn (English raven); Old High German raban (German Rabe); Danish ravn, Faroese ravnur, Norwegian bokmål ravn and Norwegian nynorsk ramn and the Swedish ramn. Compare the Latin corvus and Greek κόραξ (korax).
