From [[w:Template:lang:la language|Template:lang:la]][[Category:Template:lang:la derivations]] Lacōnicus (Spartan) < Ancient Greek Λακωνικός (Lakōnikos), Laconian). Laconia was the region surrounding and ruled by the Spartans, who were known for their brevity in speech.
