Etymology

From Germanic *strǣlo-z, from Indo-European *strē-. Cognate with Old Saxon strāla, Middle Dutch strael (Dutch straal), Old High German strāla (German Strahl). The IE root was also the source of Old Slavic strěla (Russian стрела).
