Etymology

Borrowed from Proto-Indo-Iranian *viša-. Cognates include Estonian viha and Udmurt вож; Avestan vīša-, "poison", is from the same root. In many closely related languages the word means "poison" and is thus possibly the origin of vihreä, "green".
